General Mental Health such as depression and anxiety disorders
With over 35 years of experience in mental health and substance abuse counseling, I’ve also developed a strong interest in weight management. My approach incorporates techniques from both mental health and addiction counseling to assist clients in not only losing weight but maintaining long-term success. Therapy, coaching, and groups are available.
I hold a master’s degree (M.Div.) in addition to a doctoral degree (D.Min. in Pastoral Care and Counseling). I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in the states of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
I completed a two-year advanced studies program in family therapy. And I am certified as an approved supervisor by the AAMFT (American Association of Marriage & Family Therapists).
Additionally, I am a certified drug and alcohol counselor in both Illinois and Iowa.
My approach to treatment is eclectic. I draw from many different therapeutic models depending on the condition. If you struggle with obesity, I combine education, mental health and addiction recovery tools to achieve and maintain weight loss. If dealing with anxiety, I may utilize desensitization or relaxation techniques. If a couple is experiencing difficulties caused by infidelity, I will utilize material designed to help a couple heal after an affair. When working with an addiction I utilize motivational, behavioral, and cognitive treatments.
I may administer assessment questionnaires, provide education, assign homework, or suggest behavioral tasks to help you reach your goals. Treatment concludes as soon as your goals are met.
Thank you for considering my qualifications as your counselor. I'd love to help.
